Presidential Scholars Program

the university of nebraska's premier academic scholarship

What is the Presidential Scholars Program?

The Presidential Scholars program is open to Nebraska students who receive a 36 on the math, reading and English sections of the ACT and a 36 composite on the new optional “STEM Score,” which is an average of the math and science section.  Students receiving an SAT equivalent of 1570-1600 will also automatically qualify.

NOTE: The opportunity for students who score a 32-35 on their ACT (or SAT equivalent) is no longer available due to budget constraints. Students who received a Presidential Scholarship for scoring 32-25 on their ACT (or SAT equivalent) for the 2024-25 academic year will retain their scholarship, as long as they continue to meet ongoing program requirements such as GPA.

It covers undergraduate tuition, fees, books and supplies, housing and food, personal expenses and transportation, and all other costs of attendance—plus a $5,000 annual stipend.

The scholarship can be applied to any campus of the University of Nebraska System, including the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) or the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA).

Students receiving the scholarship must maintain a 3.500 cumulative GPA and complete 24 credit hours each academic year. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of eight consecutive semesters.

Students who receive a perfect 36 ACT (or SAT 1570-1600) will automatically qualify. Self-reported scores will not be considered for program eligibility. Please submit your official ACT or SAT score to the relevant campus.

"We want you on Team Nebraska—and if you’re willing to work hard, there’s a place for you here to chase your dreams. We can’t wait to connect with more students and parents across the state and grow our team."

Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
President, University of Nebraska System

Impact of the Presidential Scholars Program

The Presidential Scholars Program was created to enroll and create opportunities for Nebraska's best and brightest students. By covering total cost of attendance—and a yearly stipend—Presidential Scholars are able to focus on their studies and pursue opportunities like internships that lead to success after graduation.
